Perhaps her mother has fallen recently or has just come home from the hospital. Safety is a constant concern and is a major factor in determining if a loved one can remain at home. Falls, mismanagement of medications, and memory deficits play important roles in home safety.

After a fall, senior adults may experience a decline in their health and become fearful that they will fall again. The fear of falling may cause senior adults to become less mobile which leads to decreasing strength and endurance.

Managing multiple medications is often confusing. Taking the correct medication and dosage at the right time or discontinuing one medication to start another creates the perfect storm. Mismanagement of medication is often the reason for a hospitalization.
